this is an earnest and honest plea and call in especially to fandoms as i see it happen more - please don't use AI for your transformative works. by this i mean, making audios of actors who play the characters you love saying certain things, making deepfakes of actors or even animated characters' faces. playing with chatGPT to "talk" or RP with a character, or write funny fanfiction. using stable diffusion to make interesting "crossover" AI "art." i KNOW it's just for fun and it is seemingly harmless but it's not. since there is NO regulation and since some stuff is built off of stable diffusion (which uses stolen artwork and data), it is helping to create a huge and dangerous mess. when you use an AI to deepfake actors' voices to make your ship canon or whatever, you help train it so people can use it for deepfake revenge porn. or so companies can replace these actors with AI. when you RP with chatGPT you help train it to do LOTS of things that will be used to harm SO many people. (this doesn't even get into how governments will misuse and hurt people with these technologies) and yes that is not your fault and yes it is not the technology's fault it is the companies and governments that will and already have done things but PLEASE. when you use an AI snapchat or instagram or tiktok filter, when you use an AI image generator "just for fun", when you chat with your character's "bot," you are doing IRREPARABLE harm. please stop.

I cruise the Demon Slayer tag and I get uncomfortable at how quickly people made AI recordings of the characters And why I don't like that habit of using ChatGPT to talk to a character whose personality is only half of its actual complexity Text

New Mature Content Warning Overlay (And How to Get Rid of It)

More fun community label "features"! Unlike the new mandatory label for #NSFW, this one is a bigger deal to me because it affects my entire blog and it can't be avoided by just using a different tag.

Apparently on custom blog layouts, if you happen to post or reblog even a SINGLE post that's been flagged with the mature content community label, a full-page warning overlay will appear blurring out your entire blog that must be manually clicked through every single time the page is refreshed. At first I thought this was just a bug due to my older layout but I've come to realize it's not. It's a feature (as confirmed by this recent changes post) that affects all custom themes. The formatting will vary based on your own theme but here's what it looks like on my blog:

I don't know about you but I find this is stupid and annoying. If it could be dismissed once and never seen again that might be one thing, but that's not the case. The vast majority of my blog is not "mature" enough to warrant such an aggressive and invasive warning. I also think pop-ups are obnoxious in general and I'll be damned if tumblr's going to force me to have one on MY blog.

After some desperate googling for a known workaround and being unable to find even a single mention of it, I decided to take on the challenge myself. I'm not a theme coder, so apologies if there's a better way to do this, but luckily it only took me like 10 minutes to figure out a simple fix, which I'm now sharing with anyone else who may want it:

.community-label-cover__wrapper {display: none}

Just copypaste that somewhere in your CSS and goodbye pop-up!

If you're not sure how to access your theme code, check out this help article. You can also add the code via the Advanced Options menu, which is actually even better (if you can get it to work, it depends on how your theme was coded), because it will then automatically be reapplied to a lot of themes without having to remember to manually add it every time if you change your theme in the future.

Obviously this will only remove it from your own blog for anyone who may visit it. If you never want to see this warning again on other people's blogs you can also add this custom filter to your ad block:

tumblr.com##.community-label-cover__wrapper

Unfortunately I do not have an easy tutorial on hand for this one as the method will depend on your specific ad block app or extension.

Some additional notes:

  • After adding the theme code and saving the changes, give it a minute to update as it sometimes takes a little while for the page to refresh.
  • The warning overlay only seems to appear if a "mature" post is on the FIRST page of your blog, which is still annoying and makes the whole thing even more pointless and stupid because what if someone visits any other page of your blog, and oh no, happens to see "mature" content they weren't warned about?!
  • The warning also appears on direct links to "mature" posts.
  • This hack has NOTHING to do with entire blogs that have been flagged as NSFW. It only works for non-flagged blogs with custom themes that happen to have individual "mature" posts.

An employer might try a particularly nasty trick I like to call "class hostaging". It works like this. Suppose they ask you to come in for an extra shift. Suppose you don't want to do it, so you decline. Now comes the trick: the employer says, "But what about your coworkers? If you don't come in, they'll be so stressed out. We're already behind, you need to be a team player!" And if they're good at it, and especially if they drink their own kool-aid, they might be able to seriously sell it and play with your emotions. And they'll especially do this if you say you want to quit, if they don't have anything tangible they can threaten you with or a financial reason to entice you to stay.

Don't fall for this! You know your coworkers. You know this has happened to you before - is it anything less than admirable when one of your coworkers has the courage to walk off from a shitty job? Even if it does mean that your boss makes you work harder to make up for it? Remember: your boss is not your friend. You are a means to an end for the business. Don't let your boss make a hostage of your coworkers like that.

it’s the boss’s fault for understaffing their workplace and for failing to anticipate and schedule for periods that need more labor.

if your boss can’t staff your workplace well enough to handle their employees taking their breaks, vacations, and sick days, your boss fully sucks at their job. and should be shamed for it. if your boss can’t even anticipate and properly schedule enough workers for busy periods, to the point they’re playing the blame game with employees who don’t want to be called back to work at short notice for unscheduled overtime, your boss is the one who fucked up their job here. and you and your coworkers should let them know.

I asked for a day off two weeks in advance and my boss suddenly decided to let everybody else go on their week long vacations- -literally days before they left but I'm the one expected to give up my day off because she can't tell people no Even my mom said to take the day off and not to worry because it's my boss' fault for not even having the spine to run a business Text

something i find cool about asuka is like. it feels like when aria made her decision to pass away peacefully, like. Sol was all ready to fight tooth and nail against fate, all in fury and denial and whatever, but asuka was more just like. i don't understand your decision. it doesn't make sense. you being alive is good and you being dead is bad, so your decision is wrong and i won't honor it. and then every fear she had about being kept alive came to pass (and worse! so much worse than she could've possibly imagined!) and asuka probably still doesn't get that that decision was The Mistake.

his decisions all made sense to him, and it seems like he's still trying to figure out why his decisions led to what they did and made him who he is - and he's still talking about how he doesn't really understand people's feelings.

this is like. hard to explain in a way that sounds right, but. i think it's cool the way it feels like asuka's autism coding and asuka's universe-defining character flaws feel very tied together in a way that makes sense. It doesn't demonize him or act like neurodivergence Is the problem, it doesn't make excuses for him either, he just, is what he is, and did what he did because it made sense to him, and he was trying to do the right thing for Aria, in the same way that Sol was, and everything fell apart because he didn't listen to her, didn't listen when she told him what the right thing to do for her was, didn't try to understand her or accept her feelings as valid, just like Sol didn't listen to her and acted like his feelings were more important than hers.

idk. it's hard to get across what i mean but. i think asuka is a cool flawed autistic character. someone get that man some guidance and therapy that isn't from his own clones pls and pls teach him not to just override people's autonomy because he thinks he knows best while you're at it
